at the Balous and Julie Miller Ranch located at 28 Upper Balcones Rd.

(Turn right at Starbucks and it is about a mile down the road, on the right, immediately after crossing Menger Creek.)

Tickets are on sale in the Gathering Place on Sunday or in the church office during the week. Bratwurst tickets are $10 and hot dog tickets are $5.

Your ticket price includes a commemorative beer stein with the SJLC logo and a logo to celebrate the 500th year of the Reformation. Steins will be given out at the picnic.  This is a true keepsake that you will have for years to come!

Join us for a special German-themed celebration in recognition of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation! The food served will be German fare: bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut, pinto beans and German chocolate cake – all  catered by Bill Miller Bar-B-Que. We will also serve hot dogs and all the fixings.

There will be entertainment for kids and adults including volleyball, train rides, paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, gaga ball, and a bounce house. Special events are a youth fishing tournament and a dessert bake-off with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. Desserts need to be turned in by 3:00 for judging. Bait and cane poles will be provided for the fishing tournament or you can bring your own fishing tackle.

There will be tables and chairs but it is recommended that you bring extras, just in case. Also bring dominos, playing cards, puzzles, checkers, etc. for fun family time!

Prizes will be awarded for the bake-off and the fishing contest.  A beautiful basket of goods for the winner of the bake off and two new fishing rods will be given out.  Come check it out!

Volunteers are needed!

We need volunteers! See the list below of what volunteers we need. A sign-up sheet is in the gathering place or you can contact Don Baker at or 830-431-0521 to sign up.

For set up: We will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, at the garage behind the Shepherd House.  We will load up tables, chairs, and other items.  Pick-ups and trailers are helpful, but willing hands are what is needed the most.  Items will be transported to the Miller ranch (28 Upper Balcones Rd) and set up.  We will also be doing grounds preparation.  Volunteers can help for part of the day or work until we are done (usually by 3:00 p.m.)
