Theme of the Retreat:
Psalm 23 – Resting in the Blessings of the Good Shepherd
Psalm 23 is a song of the sheep who is praising the goodness of the Shepherd. He is the LORD. The LORD provides. The LORD directs. The LORD leads. The LORD restores. The LORD guides. The LORD protects. The LORD comforts. The LORD feeds. The LORD anoints. Life under the LORD’s care is good. Life in the presence of the Shepherd is blessed.
Phillip Keller writes, “It is no accident that God has chosen to call us sheep. The behavior of sheep and human beings is similar in many ways. …Our mass mind (or mob instincts), our fears and timidity, our stubbornness and stupidity, our perverse habits are all parallels of profound importance. Yet, despite these adverse characteristics, Christ chooses us, buys us, calls us by name, makes us His own and delights in caring for us.” From “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23”
“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John 10:14-15, ESV
We are called to be faithful to the LORD, to follow our Shepherd and to trust in Him. We will hear His voice and He will take care of us.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6, ESV
Join us January 26-28 as we ponder life with the Good Shepherd.
